This showed up a couple of years ago.  I liked it so much I used it as a ground cover because it spreads so well.  It especially likes to be near water but does fine if irrigated.  It can be very invasive, so caution needs to be used.  It is covered with these small bright yellow flowers  and mounds to about 18 inches high.  I love it but have no idea what it is.  I have seen it in the woods around here, usually near creeks.

Louisabt writes: Yes, I have the buttercups also, and love it. I keep one corner section around the bird feeder "wild". What ever the birds bring in can grow there. I found that I do need to keep it under control, by removing excess plants. But every spring there is something new. One year a huge plant grew there with very large leaves, I believe it may have bear claw? We also have a beautiful patch of medium height (4 ft) goldenrod. Posted: 11:49 am on June 7th
